Volunteering Pays Off - Read Mark’s story

Mark joined the Daylight Shop as a volunteer in June 2019 after speaking to one of our partner employment consultants. He wanted to gain new skills and experience to get back into the workplace. Mark volunteers in our shop twice a week, sorting donations and serving customers, always providing an excellent customer service.

In November 2021, Mark signed up for the Daylight Shop’s ‘Step-up programme’ which provides opportunities for volunteers to learn new skills within developing areas of our Daylight Shop. Thanks to funding from the DWF Foundation, Mark has completed training and is now fully qualified to complete Portable Appliance Tests (PAT tests).

PAT testing is an important area within our Daylight Shop because we like to ensure that all electrical goods are safe for our customers before they are sold. Previously we contracted another company to test our electricals, which proved expensive. Since Mark has begun testing our electrical items, we have been able to reduce our costs and increase our income by selling a wider range of electrical donations. We are really grateful to Mark for his expertise and on his ongoing support.

If you would like to learn new skills, develop your confidence or experience then you can volunteer at our Daylight Shop, Daylight Centre, Foodbank, or Daylight Veggie Patch. Please contact info@daylightcf.org for an application form or follow the links on our website to the volunteer page.
